A highlight among the dino sculptures is the 15-meter high and 35-meter long Argentinosaurus. It stands on the lawn in the middle of the zoo at the old elephant house. Equally impressive is the 3.5-meter high and 12-meter long Tyrannosaurus Rex – spectacularly placed by the large zoo pond. The Velociraptor displays its giant carnivore teeth across from the bird of prey aviary. The 7-meter long Hypselosaurus in the flamingo enclosure, the 8-meter long Europasaurus at the main entrance, or the 10-meter long Triceratops with its young near the tapir enclosure also amaze zoo visitors of all ages.
Many of the lovingly detailed figures even move – for example, by opening and closing their mouths. Most of the sculptures were specially made for the Cologne Zoo and shipped from overseas. The zoo is collaborating with the U.S.-based company "Dino Don," the world's largest provider of dinosaur exhibitions.
I Must See This – Showtime: Another highlight and a real eye-catcher among the Dinoworld offerings at the zoo is the “Dino VR Experience” by the VR experts at “TimeRide”.
Guests embark on a 7-minute virtual reality time-travel journey into the distant past at the Old Elephant House.
Recommended for children aged 6 and over.
The expedition, using a VR headset, takes you millions of years back from our time right into the midst of the dinosaurs. The virtual reality experience follows the rise of the dinos on land, in the air, and in the water – until the end of their reign about 66 million years ago. Narrating this captivating time journey is Cologne’s bestselling author Frank Schätzing.
Dinoworld is featured on three special pages of the exclusive Panini collection album for the Cologne Zoo.
The album and stickers are available at the Zoo Shop and selected kiosks.
