As a zoo, in addition to admission fees – which account for only a small portion of our revenue – we also rely heavily on donations from animal lovers and zoo supporters. To continue fulfilling our primary goal of providing species-appropriate care and housing for animal species from around the world, we need your support. Please help us with your donation!
Your support helps ensure that we can care for our animals according to the latest standards and actively invest in species conservation projects both locally and worldwide. After all, the work of a zoo today is no longer just about showcasing animals from all corners of the globe, but also about participating in international species conservation and wildlife protection projects in the wild.
The animals at the zoo are ambassadors for their counterparts living in the „wild.“ Every day, they show us that it’s worth taking action to protect our species. Every euro donated is a building block for the future of the Cologne Zoo and its diverse missions in education, research, species conservation, and recreation!

You can request a donation receipt. For donations of €200.00 or more, you will automatically receive a donation receipt after the cancellation period has expired.
For donations under 200 euros, you do not need a donation receipt. A so-called simplified proof – such as a transaction confirmation for the bank transfer – is sufficient for tax purposes.
You decide how your donation will be used:
You decide where your donation should go – to a project of your choice as a designated donation, or as a general donation to where it is most urgently needed. When making a bank transfer, please be sure to include the keyword “Donation” or the specific project you wish to support in the “Purpose” field, and provide your address for the donation receipt.

The Cologne Zoo is recognized as a nonprofit organization. The zoo does not pursue commercial, profit-oriented interests, but rather focuses exclusively on objectives related to the welfare of the animals. Donations to the Cologne Zoo therefore affect taxable income.

Including a nonprofit organization in your will is usually a decision that comes from the heart. It should be carefully considered, because leaving a legacy also means placing your trust in someone. Promoting species-appropriate and forward-looking animal care and preserving biodiversity are causes close to many people’s hearts – and so is the continued development of Cologne’s historic zoo. Many people have known it since childhood and want to preserve it for the next generation. Bequests can make a big difference here. Thanks to numerous bequests received to date, notable projects such as the Elephant Park, the Hippodom, and the anteater enclosure have already been realized.
The Cologne Zoo is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization. This means that no inheritance tax is due in the event of a bequest, and every euro goes directly to the zoo – 100 percent. Upon request, we honor donors with high-quality plaques on our animal enclosures. This ensures that your name will be preserved for posterity in a place of honor!
Every year, we welcome approximately 1 million guests from all walks of life and age groups, with children and young families making up a large portion of our visitors. By including us in your will, you’ll help us continue to develop the Cologne Zoo in the future and inspire the many children and adults who visit us each year to protect our wildlife.
